Your Guide to the Life You Love

Welcome to the 11th issue of "Your Guide to the Life You Love!"

You are receiving this newsletter because you signed up for it or the companion Ebook, 101 Simple Ways to Kick the Depression Habit & Get Happier without Prozac.

Every time someone new logs on, I'm sending a sincere blessing your way.

Experiments involving water by Masuru Emoto demonstrate that when a droplet of water is blessed it creates a beautiful crystalline shape--and when it is exposed to heavy metal music or even negative words (like the name Adolph Hitler) it gets pretty ugly. Don't take my word for it--Google it!

In the past I didn't believe in the power of blessings, but the more I study about energy and its impact, whether present or remote, the more I believe. And that's why I'm sending all of my readers a blessing today.

Learn how real people have overcome real challenges, emotional, mental, spiritual and sometimes physical, in this newsletter. Thanks for being here--you are appreciated--and you are blessed!

*** Make Connections More Easily For 15 years I was one of fewer than ten women worldwide who taught the Dale Carnegie Sales Course--what an excellent training in honor, technique and intentionality -and I won numerous awards for outstanding instruction, as the plaques on my wall attest. Now I'm offering some of those tools and techniques in an upcoming Webinar--how to stop selling and just let people buy--especially for those who would rather persuade than sell--this may be for you. And it's a great refresher on what works in marketing as well.

The Webinar is a taped & edited 20 minute presentation I did for Creative Entrepreneurs Network at (believe it or not) a hip little watering hole called The Flying Saucer, followed by 15 minutes of live Q&A--Read On.

INFLUENCE MADE EASY: Making Connections that Sell! ElifeMagazine.net Webinar Thurs June 28, 2007 8pm EST (New York time)

Here's what others have said about Influence Made Easy: Making Connections that Sell!

"Thank you Patrice--Great workshop! Full of reminders and fresh techniques. Avoiding the 'interrogator' stigma is especially difficult for me, since the more information I can accrue, the more ideas result." David Deal, graphic designer

"Patrice Dickey is just the type of speaker we always strive to have for our Atlanta eWomen Network events.... interesting and energetic while providing valuable information in a short amount of time. The comments after the event showed that the tips she shared in Influence Made Easy were of value to our members." Vanessa Lowry, owner of Profits in Progress

"Just wanted to take a moment and tell you how much I enjoyed the seminar you presented for us at NAMAR. Feature Article is an Excerpt from BACK TO THE GARDEN: Getting from Shadow to Joy

In Honor of My Father for Fathers Day

Independence Day Sixty-one ago on July 4, 1946, my father was honorably discharged from military service in the United States Army Air Corps. The mere notion of his being that young and my being as old as I am seems so unreal that I count it on my fingers like a child learning abacus speed math.

How could all that time have passed since he was a young strapping handsome Irishman? And now I, Daughter Number Two, join him on a holiday weekend in Buffalo, New York, to help him clear out some of the impediments of his life and fortify a safer path through the Vortex--his office.

Although his second wife swept through most of the house like a white tornado, this was the place she feared to tread in case of stepping on his feelings (or some other booby trap) and never being sighted again.

She was the irresistible force, but he was the immovable object, and resist he did. And so they parted ways and his daughters swooped in to deal with the perilous possibility of his falling, wedged among high stacks of papers, a daunting VHS tape collection, old Christmas cards, scrapbooks, cartons of trophies, half-strung suspenders, piles of folded towels and billows of dust, and not being able to get up.

Chakra Deficit--or Excess Dear old thing, he can't help it. Being a packrat stems from a very basic insecurity about one's place in the world--a deficit at the very root of one's existence, in the first and second chakras, which relate to survival and creativity.

Many people who experienced childhood during the Great Depression retain that packrat mentality long after they've become financially secure and successful, because they don't feel fully grounded; they don't feel quite secure. Therefore they gird themselves with stuff to anchor themselves to the ground. (Anodea Judith's Eastern Body, Western Mind offers many constructive exercises for balancing all the chakras, whether one experiences deficits or excesses in any of them).

He grew up in the Depression. And then he had to deal with my mother. How he survived the emotional abuse and psychic carnage of that so-called life with my mother over those years I'll never know, but he did manage to rise above and carve out a life of service for himself which was, and is, truly admirable.

Ho! Ho! Ho! Through the Wards Recently he trained to deliver communion to shut-ins for his church, where he serves as a deacon. Deacon Dickey, I tease him. This is a man whose arthritis leaves him barely able to walk!

For years he donned his goofy Santa Claus suit and "Ho! Ho! Ho'd!" through hospital wards to cheer up sick and injured children. He also sponsored Youth Hockey games for mentally retarded children and got involved with fundraisers of every kind for the Shriners, Kiwanis, and the Masons. For decades he uplifted himself and others while singing a strong baritone with the Buffalo Philharmonic chorus and Shrine Chanters.

Like everyone, he has his issues, but he's certainly one who gives back. What a great example for me, and all of us!

Walter Mitty, Steady at the Helm In his Walter Mitty-esque way, he always dreamed of fantastic escapes, and yet stayed steady at the rudder of our family's tossed ship during my mother's downhill slide into alcoholism and eighteen years of paralysis.

Without complaint he put two daughters through college, supported his own elderly mother for decades and his father in a nursing home, and paid hundreds of thousands for my mother's care out of his own pocket, well above and beyond what insurance covered.

Although not flashy heroism, isn't that the definition of a modern-day hero--one who quietly and calmly does his perceived duty, trudging through each day without saying, "Look at me--aren't I great?"

A mere wink of the eye ago my father was the best looking young man in his home town of Cambridge Springs in northwestern Pennsylvania--an idyll in the road.

Bless you, Dad.

John Stephens, founder/artistic director, Theatre Gael & WorldSong Children's Theatre

Gee, where to begin--bold, brave, scholarly; also sincere-- tried & true honest, fun, poignant. And it is practical wisdom in small healthy doses; to-the-bone "truth," not "truthiness." Love the design, too. The Haunted Bed--YIKES!!
Marcia R. Oliver, Earth Mother

Joyce Kinnard, co-author The Lemon Book, cancer survivor

I absolutely love this book. It hits at the heart of what many deal with these days: how do I create a happy life out of the frustrations of my former struggles? The easy flow of the writing gently seduced me. In reading the stories of the author and her friends, the lens she held to their life events and insights led me naturally to my own inner exploration. We may not know the number of our days, but through the profound illustrations in this deeply moving book, the author gently guides us as to how to make the best of them.
Robert E. Dallas, Ph.D., The Dallas Center

Your wonderful book touched me at the time when I needed it the most. It is such a good read as well as being inspirational, uplifting, evocative and engrossing. I laughed, cried, was transported to the places, and came to know the people you wrote about. I can still smell the fragrance of your magnolia flowers! I'm halfway through it again!
Kim McLagan, entrepreneur

It got me in touch with my feminine side. More than once while reading it, I had to take to bed with a box of Kleenex and a bottle of Midol.
Mack Ray, Arkansas farmer & columnist

A beautifully written book; reading it is like visiting with a friend or having a conversation with the author by an open fire on a winter's day.
Nancy B. Clark, retired teacher

The cover letter said, "Competition was particularly fierce this year so (the) accomplishment is truly impressive."--I'll toast that!

Here's what Judge #39 said about BACK TO THE GARDEN. "This really is a delightful book, full of pithy, wise, fun, real, honest, short selections, each to the point and with a message one can carry away to ponder. Written by a woman who has obviously Been There, the book shares, directs, reflects wisdom and understanding at every possible turn--and quite painlessly. The writing is witty, accessible, easy and enjoyable to read, chatty or conversational, on universal subjects, what we will all encounter as we lead full lives. Dickey offers effective ideas, new fresh perspectives, techniques or tools to deal with these everyday problems or situations... The subject titles are fresh and catchy; and the interior design and cover are attractive. I like this book."

I'm also honored to mention that the book has previously won Inspirational, Spiritual, Aging, Death & Dying, and 1st Place Nonfiction awards from the IPPYs 2006, Best Books 2006 (two categories) and Atlanta Writers Club, respectively.
