JULY 4TH, AMERICAN INDEPENDENCE DAY, WHAT A RUSH!

Just a week ago I marched down the main street of Avondale Estates, the Enchanted Forest where I live, as part of the Marching Kazoo Band, 20 of us in Uncle Sam top hats, T-shirts with all the proper insignia, and kazoos at full tilt boogie blasting away on patriotic march favorites like "Grand Old Flag," and the "Halls of Montezuma"--tunes that stuck in my brain for hours.

Talk about a hoot!

I don't know whether it was oxygen deprivation from humming through our kazoos; or the unusually cool air for the South and low humidity that morning; or the clusters of families and friends lined up on tree-shaded lawns with little kids and a 99-year-old wheelchair granny all waving American flags; or the sheer liberation of acting like a complete goofball and not caring a bit; or that this spontaneous opportunity for public display is part of the freedom of the American Dream. Possibly all of these factors combined put me into a state of euphoria that lasted for hours.

Afterwards, I relaxed, listening in awe to Aaron Copland's "Appalachian Spring" and "Billy the Kid" and felt myself overwhelmed with gratitude that little and large celebrations like these were taking place all over the U.S., and regular people like me were in a place of appreciation and gratitude for our freedoms.

GRATITUDE FOR A BIGGER SPHERE

It's not just all about U.S., or us, or me--it's about our entire planet.

And it's about how we can combine our energy to make a positive impact for all of us.

I've just completed Gregg Braden's The Divine Matrix, in which he discusses a "dark night of the soul"--a very pivotal part of the Hero's Journey in which one sheds the old--sometimes in a very painful molting and release--and eventually evolves into the new.

The dark night is literally a small death--a death of the old, which, Braden says, we do not experience until we are equipped with the tools to deal effectively with it.

This is the place where I (and so many others) see the Earth right now.

The Earth is experiencing a dark night of the soul in terms of cataclysmic storms and warming, and here we are, like little gnats, wondering what we can do to affect it positively--beyond getting over our gas-guzzlers, changing our light bulbs and becoming TRUE conservatives.

MAKE IT REAL--HELP IT HEAL

Many of us WANT to do something--well, mark your calendars. Next Tuesday, July 17 at 11:11am Greenwich Mean Time (or 7:11 am EST -New York time)--hundreds of thousands and perhaps millions of people all over the world will join in an hour of appreciation, meditation, prayer and joy about Life On Our Earth.

For that Intentional Hour, our combined hearts and minds will send loving energy back to Mother Earth--our sustainer from whom we have sucked so much, so relentlessly, that now it's time to give something back.

During that hour of healing, think of all the things you're grateful about for living on Earth; the beautiful places you've visited that you love; the wonderful experiences you've had in exploring; the delicious foods that have all come from the Earth, comprising elements of the Earth as we all do.

Earth is Our Mother--we owe her one.

Combined, focused energy and intention have powerful healing effects. I hope you will join me in sharing your energy next Tuesday--even if only for a few minutes. Send loving thoughts.

If you want to find out more about this effort, visit firethegrid.org.

Thanks in advance. I honestly believe our focused intentions make a huge difference.

TOOTING MY JUST-RELEASED AUDIO-BOOK, (Hey, that may be preferable to tooting a KAZOO!)

Here's a note from a single mother and entrepreneur who recently got a copy of the CD, Selected Chapters from BACK TO THE GARDEN: Getting from Shadow to Joy, available on my website:

"I just wanted to take a minute and let you know just how much I appreciate the CD book. I had it for a week or three, carrying it around in my purse, trying to decide where to play it. Then I decided to get over myself and put it in my CD-alarm clock. For the past few mornings, I've woken up to Patrice's healing and inspiring words, and Andrea's soothing reassuring voice. The combination is incredible. I have the volume down so that I wake up naturally, so each morning it's been a different part of the CD that I actually come fully awake to. Know matter where my conscious mind is when I am fully awake, I know that my subconscious has heard and absorbed plenty. How?? Because this past week has been a huge roller coaster, and while I have definitely been re-active and had low moments, I have also found some place within to go to and remind myself - it won't be like this forever, and I do have all the tools necessary to end up just where I belong and desire to be (to include friends who hear me and encourage me to move forward).

Earlier this week, a friend reminded me that change was good. She also reminded me that whenever I ask for something by a certain time, the universe always delivers. So I did. I asked for clarity and resolution to several situations by Friday. In the interim, there was quite a bit of turmoil and angst - like being a dinghy on the ocean in the middle of a class 5 storm. But, I now have my clarity and resolution. I claimed the living space of my heart - and I got it! I asked that a few situations resolve themselves - and they have. I asked to be given viable options - and they are revealing themselves. And I haven't even stated my Treasure Map yet, but I see it in my mind's eye, and I know that can only make it all better.

And oh, can you two PLEASE just do a series of these?? You know, one on relationships, one on healing your past, one on preparing for your future, parents and family, etc.... You two are a dynamic team. The combination of your talents really works. It really does. I am living the benefits right now.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! To both of you.

Cool Mind Candy

An old Native American grandfather was talking about a battle that raged inside him with his young grandson after prayers.

The grandfather said, "My child, the battle inside me is between two wolves, one of whom is so evil, full of anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, hypocrisy, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority and ego.

The other is so good, full of remembrance of God, faith, peace, love, compassion, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, and truthfulness."

The grandson pondered for a moment, then asked, "Grandfather, which wolf will win the battle?"

The grandfather replied simply, "The one I feed."

Writer's Digest recently notified me that my book BACK TO THE GARDEN: Getting from Shadow to Joy was chosen as an Honorable Mention in the Inspirational category of the 14th Annual Writer's Digest Self-Published Book Awards, so I'm offering an Internet special! Visit www.PatriceDickey.com and the book is yours for only $14.95 plus shipping and tax where applicable.

The cover letter said, "Competition was particularly fierce this year so (the) accomplishment is truly impressive."--I'll toast that!

Here's what Judge #39 said about BACK TO THE GARDEN. "This really is a delightful book, full of pithy, wise, fun, real, honest, short selections, each to the point and with a message one can carry away to ponder. Written by a woman who has obviously Been There, the book shares, directs, reflects wisdom and understanding at every possible turn--and quite painlessly. The writing is witty, accessible, easy and enjoyable to read, chatty or conversational, on universal subjects, what we will all encounter as we lead full lives. Dickey offers effective ideas, new fresh perspectives, techniques or tools to deal with these everyday problems or situations... The subject titles are fresh and catchy; and the interior design and cover are attractive. I like this book."

I'm also honored to mention that the book has previously won Inspirational, Spiritual, Aging, Death & Dying, and 1st Place Nonfiction awards from the IPPYs 2006, Best Books 2006 (two categories) and Atlanta Writers Club, respectively.
