Courage To Be Herself Again After Divorce
"Thanks for your continuing inspirational notes, messages, text of all sorts. Just wanted to update you on my journey.... I finally have my little slice of paradise....Sullivan's Island, SC. It's so amazing to me that I have this beach place. I still pinch myself every time I'm there, in my small town, 2 blocks from the beach. As a bonus, I also have a very nice, loving man in my life...I have a few girlfriends who still think their own life is incomplete without a significant other. That's really too bad; they're missing out on the most important friendship of their life.... themselves.
Thanks for helping me see my path more clearly, all those years ago. I truly know that your class was an eye opener that gave me the courage to be ME again. Take care, friend.

Pieced Together The Mess that Was Her Life
"We did meet in Dallas! It was AMAZING! Your lecture was awesome and the book has somewhat pieced together the mess that was my life. Speaking so much in first person, it made the book that much easier to understand. I kept using your metaphors in conversation ..... Salty tears are a good fertilizer for a realized life. Sheesh."

Empty-Nester Brightened Her Day
"I have just returned from dropping my 'one and only; son off to start his college career and am feeling somewhat frozen...It doesn't seem that long ago that my parents did the same to me...and I noted that I had been remiss in not writing to tell you how much I enjoy your "newsletter" ...it brightens my day..."

Turned Her Life Around After Husband's Death
It occurs to me that almost everything I wrote down a few months ago is becoming a reality, though I'd forgotten having actually committed these goals to paper. Hmmm! (music from "The Twilight Zone" is playing in my head). The point is, I give you lots of credit for my turn-around. I may still have plenty of negative thoughts, but I am so aware of them now, and I am able to reframe many of them. Heck, I find myself trying to "coach" my cranky cat into being more content, using what I've learned from you (she isn't as receptive as I am, unfortunately).

She Learned To Dream For Herself
I look in the mirror and I am starting to see what was buried under layers of guilt and low self esteem. Digging for buried treasure takes time and I started this process 2 years ago by taking Patrice Dickey's "Get the Life You Love" at Evening at Emory. The idea that I could make my own "Treasure Map" and it didn't have to include what my mother stated was my life's path was a break through. The class engaged my imagination of what was possible. It was possible to dream for myself and to grow through active participation. The class was so dynamic that we enjoyed several more sessions at Patrice's house. We "burned" our fears. We "colored" our hearts. We "shared" our thoughts. Patrice - like a dance partner - lead us through the lessons and activities with a firm yet gentle touch that helped guide us toward personal growth. I gained the courage to start working on changing my life (set boundaries with myself and my family) and to deal with the obstacles without buckling under, with the support and prayers of other group members.
Change is taking many baby steps but once you stop to rest and look back, you'll see how far you've come, and you look ahead to see what treasure on the map you're heading towards.
